The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) turned 82 on Saturday 15 May, and celebrated in style at its Wings for Life ‘Birthday’ Ball and major annual city fundraiser at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
The party kicked off with a real bang. With the ruby red curtain lifting on stage to reveal Bob Johnson’s 18-piece Big Band which took guests on a musical journey.
Over 500 supporters and guest attended the party, where Australia's new King of Swing, Carl Riseley, flew in to sing Happy Birthday to the ‘Flying Doctor’ and performed a fantastic rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘Come fly with me’.
Guests enjoyed a fabulous three-course meal complimented by Jacob’s Creek Wines and Coopers ales, and others enjoyed a lot more! With Marg and Andy Reid of Fairview Park winning the lucky door prize, a $13,500 strand of pearls kindly donated by Raw Pearls.
Guests dug deep throughout the evening, trying their luck on the ‘lucky dip’ boxes. Long-time supporter Adelaide Airport Limited offered a great incentive when it offered to match dollar-for-dollar the amount raised from guests in order to buy not one, but two new humidicribs for regional RFDS bases.
Major Event Sponsors were Candetti Constructions, MGA Whittles, Viterra and Iluka Resources.
