Alaris Asena Infusion Pump

Alaris Asena Infusion PumpThe Alaris Asena is a lightweight, compact and robust pump used to administer intravenous fluids to patients during transport.

Many patients transported by RFDS are receiving infusions of potent drugs, which must be administered at a carefully controlled rate. The pump is battery powered and programmed by staff to administer fluids at any rate between 1 and 999 mL per hour. The maximum volume of fluid to be administered can be set and there are alarms to signal occlusion of the IV line, the presence of bubbles in the line, or other alarm states.

The Asena pumps fluid through the intravenous line which ensures that even in the confined conditions of our aircraft, infusions run smoothly. The Asena works on rechargeable batteries and can operate for up to six hours when fully charged. Some patients may require multiple Asena pumps operating simultaneously with different drug infusions.

This new model "Asena" pump supercedes the "IVAC" which we used successfully for10-15 years. We have an ongoing need for some additional units to replace existing infusion pumps, as they reach the end of their useful life and for outfitting of new aircraft.

Approximate cost: A$ 2,500.
